Default 88 headlight problem

Hello all, a question here about the headlights on my 88. my right side headlight has resently started sticking about half way through the up and down cycle. It will finally finish the cycle. The left side works fine. Anything I should look for or any suggestions? Thanks < JOHN

88 is the first year for the plastic bushing failure motors..It sounds like you have the symtoms of it...It's a cheap deal if you fix it yourself and you can get the parts dirt cheap at Home Depot but I'm not sure what they call them there...Someone will chime in with that info.Otherwise you can pay a lot more for them with Ecklers(still not a big deal)

The headlight wraparound is held on by two screws, one on each side. First check that one of the screws hasn't backed out and stops the door from opening by hitting the hood.

I noticed a similar problem just yesterday on my 87. The light was hanging up on part of the frame preventing it from fully righting itself when I turned them on. I messed with it for awhile tightening all of the nust and bolts with no luck. Finally I loosened two of the nuts holding a brace in place just a couple of turns. That solved the problem. Go Figure!

Oh one more thing I have noticed is that I can still hear the electric motor running for a few seconds even after the headlight is completely up or down....

Mine does it too. You have to rebuild the guts. You will probably notice a lot of plastic powder near the light. Thats grinded up gear guts.

The replacement bushing are also available at your local parts store that sells "HELP" / "MOTORMITE" brand items.

They are the same for ford truck window regulators. About $6.00-$8.00 per side at the parts stores.
