There's no better way to start a Monday than to have someone rush into your office and tell you your corvette is on fire. As extremely dissappointed as I am, I'm pretty fortunate that the fire stayed near the battery box area. I'll start tearing it apart tonight to see how much internal wiring was damaged. No telling what started it at the moment, but it was strong enough to make my battery explode. I thought I'd fixed all of the wiring problems, but obviously that's not true. Clutch and brake reserviors, all wiring in that area, plastic pieces (relays, wiring connections, speed control, hood release cables) and hood are destroyed as far as I can tell right now. I was looking forward to a fun summer with her; guess it's back to the winter car for this year.

Sad day for you is right, but all I can give you is support, and I'm sorry for your misfortune. Insurance will cover it right?
Oh yeah, forgot to add that part, I just (less than a month ago) bought a home and decided at that time it would just be better to have liability on the vette to save a few $'s. So, not only am I broke from buying the house, but I have no coverage for this with the vette either. Tough lesson to learn.
If the car isn't your daily driver, you should get collectors insurance. If you are over 25, you can get one that even lets you drive it to work once in a while. Sneed is good for that.
They would insure the car, but would specifically exclude me from driving it. Hagerty(won't let me drive it to or from work or school) would insure the car as my mom as the primary driver, and allow me and my mom as occasional drivers. I'm 18 BTW.
Man that sux bigtime...sorry for your loss. As mentioned though, your lucky it was caught as soon as you did. Keep us posted as to your findings on what caused it and your progress of getting your baby back on the road.

Your referring to the positive post that is a common spot to pickup power for under hood accessories. So to clairify for the old guys.... This junction/post should be routinely disassembled and cleaned. Lets maybe once a year at a minimum?

What junction box? Please post pics of the possible source if you get the chance, maybe your loss could at least save another of our vettes from the same fate. I can host them for you if needed.
I was just in there with the battery out doing some work and don't recall a junction box or I would have tapped into it for my amp. I suppose the thin wire from the posi terminal goes to it.
I think it'd be stupid for the rest of us to not inspect the suspect area on our cars after this happening.
