Default Radar Detector Mounting Options?

How have you guys been mounting your radar detectors on early C4's? I'll be hard wiring near the rear view mirror. Pics? Thanks.

I place mine on the dash, at the base of the windshield. Works fine.

Suction cup mounted to the windshield in front of the rearview mirror, you can't really see it from the front of the car

mines mounted right below the sight of the rear view mirror, and i have the hard wire coming out at the trim right above the rear view. it's hard to see outside of the car...well from a cop's point of view they've never said anything about it.

I'm just wondering about getting away from the suction cups and mounting to the windshield header somehow...

Mine is mounted just to the left of the RVM, as high as possible.

Two suction cups hold it to the top of the windshield and double sticky tape holds it to the header.

It's wired into the non-dimming mirror light for auto on/off with ignition.

I leave it mounted even when parked with the top off and windows up as it really can't be seen from outside.

Home made mount made from a long machine screw and a piece of thin metal shaped and drilled to mount to mirror screw. Detector is hard wired into mirror lights.

I bought the ZIP product which doesn't work on 89 and older C4's because those use a screw at the RVM instead of a bolt. The ZIP hanger rod is threaded at the top for the post 89 models. I like Agent 86's set up!

that stuff is all a gimmick.. don't ever buy any of it.. radar doesnt reflect off the plate, but rather the entire car...

I have a V1,and it explains in simple to understand detail how everything works in the manual...very good read, even if you don't have a V1 or a radar detector...

I just use the suction mounts in mine since I transfer it between two different cars during the week... REALLY like that screw idea from the rear view...

BTW, the CORRECT placement for OPTIMAL response for any radar detector is as high as possible, but to where it can still see out the front and rear (if you have rear detection)... The higher it is, the better "range" it as, as it can pick things up sooner...being lower to the dash, it can miss things since radar bounces and reflects off objects, such as your hood, etc.

I keep mine just below the rear view mirror in my Tiburon (big back window) but a little more in the middle in the Vette since the roof is a bit lower...
