Are you saying that you would replace your main cat with the muffler? You could do it if you wanted to. You would have to cut the flanges off of the cat and weld them to the muffler.
The options listed on the page you posted all have connections SMALLER than 3". The single pipe connecting your front and read "Y" is 3". DON'T go smaller. That middle section is a contraint to your system. If anything, go bigger.
Another consideration is the main cat acts like a muffler. Removing it to put a muffler in it's place doesn't gain much unless you employ a strong muffler. In that case, I gotta ask: Why elims if you want quiet?
I assume you're looking to add muffler upstream to avoid cluttering up the rear view? Consider targa mufflers -- which come is a couple of variations.
As alternatives, you could put glass packs in the bends before the final stretch. And, you might be able to get glass packs in the front "Y".

I'd put a cat back on. The cat will quiet it down and get you back to legal. Two birds with one stone.
Putting dual cats in the front "Y" is another option.
Your year is not posted, but I'm guessing 84/85 which only had one cat. You only mentioned one cat.
Edit:
You should know that any muffler will induce as much (or more) backpressure as a converter does. So, you gain nothing by going from a converter to a muffler for quieting. OTOH, if you keep a converter, you stay quieter and legaler. New word I invented (legaler), like it?
