In second gear, the overdrive will sometimes (1 in 3 times shifting into 2nd) kick in even though I haven't pressed the button. This only happens in second gear and only happens sometimes, doesn't seem to matter if under hard acceleration, easy acceleration or even down shifting.
I was going to check the linkage, but not sure how to get at it.
Any thoughts?
thanks in advance
Also passed a C5 today, guy didn't even look at me, never mind wave, screw him with his $500 shades and driving gloves!

mine was doing something like that, i checked my wires on the od relay and two of my wires were touching, your od relay is right by your brake booster.
The OD defaults to ON once the coolant temp reaches about 120 degrees. On my 87, if I accelerate in 1st with medium throttle, the OD will not engage until 4th gear. Supposed to work that way. Light throttle and you should see OD in 2nd just after the 1-2 shift. http://www.5speeds.com/43table.htm
The shifter linkage is not involved with how the OD operates. It
's controlled by a relay, input to the ECM, and a solenoid and pressure switch in the OD itself.

Auto kickdown was my favorite part of the trans. But the computer going into overdrive when you don't want it to is stupid. I don't know why GM added that in 86.
I bought the car last October and have been fixing it up, so I haven't driven it much, yet. I've been taking it easy thinking there was something wrong with the overdrive. It's great to have knoweldgeable people on this forum to help out. Thanks a lot for all your quick feedback.
