Thanks to a UPS screw up two of my wheels and tires came in yesterday and the other two should be here today. I will install them myself and am curious as to how I should jack the car up. I have a floor jack and rhino ramps. Where should I place the jack. Do I need the ramps? Should I do fronts/backs, or left side/right side?
Hi Neighbor Look under the rocker panel below the doors and you will see two jacking points on each side. You want to position your floor jack to catch the metal rail right there where the rocker panel attaches to it. Look or feel under there and you will see the fuel and brake lines run under there, be sure you keep the jack outboard so that it doesn't catch the lines. You can also jack middle of the car and raise one entire side at a time. Never try to jack it up like most other cars, the aluminium suspension parts would not like that.
Define UPS screw up(since I work for them) and maybe I can offer advice for nest time.
Ramps are of no use when changing wheels and tires since you can't remove wheels when they are on ramps.
On teh rocker panel, you will see where it is marked for teh jacking points. I only use them when I'm using the factory jack. Otherwise for the rear, I use a jack-a-vette on my floor jack.
For the front I drive the car up on some 2 x 8's to get clearance and jack up the front right behind the spoiler on the front crossmember(forget what the correct term is for that piece).

Mr. Mojo,
Four wheel/tires combos and on box of lugs and caps were shipped. The lugs and two wheels came yesterday. When I looked at the tracking report, the notes stated that one wheel had been mistakenly misrouted by the hub to Rome, GA, and then had to be sent back to Atlanta to be redirected back to Mableton. The fourth wheel shows delivered at 5 - 6 am yesterday, but also shows subsequent activity at 9 am as out for delivery. I am very concerned about that package. I don't have access to the tracking numbers here at work, but hopefully there will be two wheels at my front door when I get home.
Thanks to all for the lift point advice, I am anxious to see what these wheels will look like. Will post pics in a new thread.
As far as the ramps, what I meant was to drive the car up so I could fit the jack under.
you may need the ramps if your car is too low for the floorjack. I have to ramp mine before jacking it up.
If you can find a spot under the car to jack up the front, then you can do both front wheels first. The back is a bit harder to do at once since the exhaust is in the way of all support bars. Just jack up one side at a time.
Look under the side of the car, you will see some little arrows or notches in the paint or frame that shows where to put the jack.
Take care when jacking it up so that the jack doesn't slip or move and screw up your paint. I learned that the hard way a while back It's kind of rough/chipped around the jack point on one side.
As far as the package, it happens quite a bit. If a trailer gets full, and three of yours made it down the belt and into the truck and the 4th one got on a different one, there could be a delay, or as I think you mentioned, it got routed to the wrong building. There are a few reasons for this. Some buildings use PAS(Preload Assist) and they get PAL's The Pal's direct the package to the proper location, however since a human is applying the label, it can sometimes be placed on the wrong package or maybe an old one was still on the box.
Boxes are supposed to be looked at on all 6 sides to check for more than one label(both PAL and address) and the address label must match the PAL.
If you get a lazy driver, the package won't be deliveredif he finds it on the wrong truck.
If you track it and see "in transit" and it's been more than 4 days, that means the package was lost, stolen or damaged. Happens on occasion.
Here are some more pics, you can see where the Jack a vette is placed on the exhaust also pics in my first reply.
It sounds like maybe I have been doing it the hard way. I use the stock jack to lift a corner, then slip my floor jack under a main frame/jacking point, raise the car and do what I need (and I always use jack stands!!). When I am done I have to reverse the process, letting the floor jack down as far as possible so I don't damage the air dam, they going back to the corner stock jack (although if I raise it high enough that the suspension is extended (the wheels are off the ground) when I let it down with the floor jack I can usually slide it out since the suspension doens't settle down until I get in it and drive.

hahahah yeah..ramps will make your life SOOOOO much easier...plus you can use them on all your other vehicles too
I ramp mine for... tire/brake work, oil changes, anything underneath it...
Of course I jack it up higher once it's on the ramps... I keep the ramps in place for a safety too..

Try to get the tracking # when possible and keep an eye on it.
A few weeks ago I got my Corsa exhaust delivered, for my C6.
I tracked it on the UPS web, 2 boxes 'out for delivery'.
The bell rang, driver had one box. I said,"There should be another box wieghing 54lbs. He said no. I told him to please look in the truck again.
He came back with the other box & said "Nice Catch".
I lift the whole side of mine all the time with one floor jack ..As long as the jack is under the pinch weld on the frame, which is almost the whole rocker panel.I always make sure not to let the raised areas on the jack damage the plastic rocker panel.I lift about 6-8 inches behind the arrows on the front and it takes both wheels up.
I have a question for Mojo, what is a jack-a-vette?
The jack-a-vette is a piece of metal that attaches to a floor jack. I am not sure if we can post a link for a vendor, but if you search for Corvette Gadget Man on the web, you should find their site.

I had all tracking numbers. Five packages, 4 wheel/tire, and one box accessories. Two wheels and one small box made it. I looked in the truck, no wheels. One wheel went to Rome, Georgia, and then was sent back to the Atlanta hub, to be delivered today. My concern is wheel #4, which is showing delivered at 5am yesterday, but also showing out for delivery 4 hours later. No subsequent scans. I will know when I get home.
Thanks for all the help on the lift points. I was concerned that rail would not handle a floor jack.
Wow... Im glad someone asked this question....I was getting ready to....good stuff so thanks to all who posted replies...
Mr Mojo...is that last picture what happens when you get the Jack-a-vette wedged in too tight??? Sorry ...couldnt resist.
Amazingly enough my sorry lil brain hadnt thought about backing onto my ramps. That was a real head slapper if not an early warning for alzheimers. I assume noone has had any issues with the angle pushing the spoiler down too far in front when backing up?

In my building, we know before we leave the building what we have on the truck(or rather what we're supposed to have).
