My driver side headlight is not as quick to go around as the passenger side. As a matter of fact, someimes it does not like to go all the ay around. Today, I turned my headlights off and passenger side closed but driverside went halfway and stopped. I waited a sec, and turned the lights back on, both opened completely. Truned them off, and both closed, although drivers was slower as usual.
1. When this happens, if I leave the lights turned off, while the drivers side sits about halfway in the closed position, am I hurting anything? Is the motor or something still trying to close at this time? Shoudl I quickly turn them back on to avoid buring up the motor or something?
2. What do you think is wrong, and is there anything I can do to help prolong the life? Can I lube anything?
Let me be the first to reply. My 88 Covertible had the same affliction.
After spending a lot of money on a controller module which didn't help I bowed to popular opinion (and experience) and changed the bushings in the motor. They aren't really bushings at all but act as the pawls of a sprage type clutch assembly to activate the doors either up or down. Unfortunely GM used some cost effective( for Them) material which turns to dust over time as mine had. I changed them -its a bitch to take them appart but not too difficult once you do one. There are a lot of good threads in the forum now showing you how to do it. I'm trying to find someone that sells the detail bushings and parts in the door assemblies themselves. Several shops will overhaul them but I don't think its worth it cause it ain't rocket science, just fiddly. My next stop will be to see my friendly dealer who probably want to sell me a whole assembly for a grand or so.

the bushings are about $5.00 from Ecklers, Corvette Cebtral or any other dealer and it is easy to do the fix yourself. Home Depot sells bushings that work for about $1.00 and if you do a search you should be able to come up with the part number to ask for.
