I took apart my dash to take out the cluster cause the bulbs are wore out. The guy at the auto parts store gave me halogen 161's and said they'd fit. Well he's wrong, I pulled the original bulbs and they are halogen 882. Where can I get these bulbs? I know I can order them from Mid-America or similar places but they're outrageous.
I located them at the local Cadillac dealer. They are also used for one of the 90's model cady. They cost me around $4.00 each including the holder. They Had them in stock. Went to the chevy dealer down the street 1st and they said they could not help me. Just took a chance with the Cady dealer. Also got the center information cluster bulbs at the cady dealer also.
I called the local Chevy and Cadillac dealers. One didnt even have it, and the other wanted $29.75 for one bulb. The nearest Pep Boys is up in Dayton, more than 30 min away. This seems awefully silly for one stupid bulb.
Thanks Megawatt, I called NAPA and the guy said they dont have any in stock. However, he ordered me one and it'll be in tomorrow. $8.99 each. Expensive, but I need it.
I replaced all 4 bulbs with #194's. They sell for about $3 for a package of two. Everything is working fine. I got them from Radio Shack. Before doing anything, read this....
dangit, the local stores have both the 194's and 891's. I wish I would have known that sooner. I dont know if I should go buy some or wait until tomorrow, cause I feel bad that I told the guy I wanted some. I havent paid for them either.
I replaced mine with 194LL's. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but they were slightly bigger bulbs than stock. I managed to get them to fit and work. However, I have a new problem: The new bulbs are MUCH brighter than the old ones. Looks like i'll have to get 2 more bulbs for the other side.

I think I read somewhere that if you get the wrong bulbs that are brighter then it can produce unwanted heat and melt your circuit board.
Well... I've never done it personally... but if you read that link that was posted above, it says to replace the 882s with 194s, but then a poster at the bottom says you can't put 194s in a 84 vette??? DOn't know why you can in one and not in the other and he doesn't specify a reason, but he did say you can replace the 882s with 891s which is a direct GM replacement and run about $7 a piece.
Which is almost as much as your paying for the 882s your ordering from NAPA so......
I couldnt find the 891's. Said they had them, but no luck. The 194's wont fit without modification. They're a little bigger, so you have to make the pins shorter and then they fit. I just dont want it to kill my digi dash.
