We'll I'm back again. This time its on overheating. The 91 after driving for about 2 hours with or with out a/c starts to push 260 degree's. It hasn't complete overheated yet, I won't let it and it seems to stablize there, but it makes me nervous. I've always heard Vettes run hotter, but this seems way too much. Is there a problem and if so where should I start?
Have you changed fluid lately? If so did you burp the system? This could be a stuck thermostat, air in the system, fans not running, or if any leaks could be hoses, faulty waterpump, or leaky radiator to name a few.
my '90 has an HVAC digital readout.....coolant temp can be read by pushing the 2 buttons concurrently, at top, until "00" reads.....then push right button until "16" reads.....then push middle button for coolant temp in *C.
I have an '88 coupe with 88k. I thought it was runnng too hot. If you haven't done the following yet, then have at it before changing anything.
1- clean between the radiator and in front of it. There was a load of stuff between mine. Plastic, leaves, leaves turning into compost, etc. You get the picture. I got a grabby entension thing at the dollar store and it made it a lot easier to clean out!
2- make sure you have full fluid. If you have air in the system, you'd get a lite on the dash. That happened when i changed coolent.
After this, I ran cooler but wanted more. I changed thermostat to 180
and fan sensor also. Haven't had any worries since.
Good luck

We need more info. Is the coolant level ok? Are the fans coming on? Does the upper radiator hose heat up?
The fans come on and appear to be operating properly. The coolant is full and is clean (However I am planning on changing it anyway). After the temps rise for awhile I get a check engine light. It flashes code 32, which indicates an EGR problem. I hope this helps. I will check on the upper radiator hose. Thanks for everyones replys.
I think JIMBO7 has laid it out well. I stared running hot over a period of time, got hotter each month. Changed the thermostat on principal, really did not think it was bad. I was really thinking the radiator. It fixed me up. Heated in a pan of hot water and could see it was not opening properly. Do the cheep, easy most common thing first.
