Default Another headlight question

For 88. Passenger headlight. Opens and shuts well but when closed there is slop in final position. I get about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of play at closed position. Driver side is snug.

Is this just another bushing problem or is it gear slop?

Anyone else fought this one?

On my 89 it was the bushings. Sometimes they would open and close fine, but you could always here the motors running for a bit after they should have stopped. Also I couldn't get them to go up by turning the **** by hand. I figure the motor spins faster and sometimes the pieces of bushing were enough to move the light up and down.

It's pretty tight in there and it reminds me of flexible couplings that I used to install on big pumps when I worked for the local Electric Generating plant.

I have been tempted to get a spare light and try different materials in there to see what works well. I bet you could put a stiff piece of nylon hose in there and it would work as well as the Delrin bushings.

When I replaced mine, I used some Nylon bushings from a local hardware store. I would have rather used something that had a little more give. I think if there is ever a problem with my lights, it will eat the gears now instead of the coupling like it should.
