Default Automatic door lock broken?

My remote will open the pass. door and hatch no prob. The driver's door, not. I read threads about the PKE system, how to turn it on off, I think I know how. At least I follow the directions, but I never see the light turn on for the PKE on the central display. The door doesn't open either when I get close to the car. When I sit inside the car and hit the "door" button on the remote, the pass. door unlocks, I hear what sounds like a motor run without being engaged on the driver side, but nothing. Oh, there is no prob if I use the door lock from either door from the inside.

Does this sound like some linkages might be broken in the door?
Or is this something where me being a noob to the 'Vette that I just am missing something really stupid??

In order to activate or deactivate the system you have to hold the "door button" down for at least 5 secs or until the hear/see the door locks cycle. You can sit in the car & watch for the locking slides to move. After that turn on the ignition & the PKE shud light up in the lower left corner of the DIC.

If you want to program which door(s) open automatically, put the key in the ignition, donot turn on & use the door button to select doors, etc.

The fob will open the pass/door & hatch when the system is not active.
