I live in Atlanta, Ga. Our law here is 32 on side and back windows. I'm going to get my windows tinted today and was wondering how many of you get lower than your state law? Im wondering if I went 20 or something if I would be in deep . I heard cops dont really car about the windows that they care more about other serious stuff on the roads. What do you guys think I should do? Also my window is scratching a little on the outside and I need to replace the outer door seals....isnt the tint on the outside? Just want to be safe my seals come in this week.
Do you also do the front windshield a certain tint!?!

I got mine tinted with 5% all the way around and have the same on both my DD and my wife's Z71 Tahoe. Never had a problem and have been pulled over once for another infraction. The policeman did not say a word about the tint. I think the law in Arkansas is 20%.

My rear hatch window is tinted as dark as the bronze acrylic top that came with the car. Not sure what the % is. The tint is on the inside. As for the windshield, I would leave that alone. I think it already comes from the factory with tinted windshield. Any darker and you could have trouble seeing, especially at dusk. Not everyone puts their headlight on.
I would not go w/ a limo tint (5%) all the way around (if 32% is what is legal) but I'd probably go w/ the 20%. Not a big difference compared to what's legal...
I live in Polk County FL. I have 5% all around and even though I once was pulled over for a tail light out, the cop didn't give me any trouble at all! Just told me to get it fixed ASAP!
From my experience you don't want the back window as dark as the sides. It makes it really hard to tell if there is a cop back there. I had mine done all the same and ended up going back and having the rear done lighter. 20 on the sides and 32 on the rear should be perfect.
i live in Illinois and i think any tint on the front windows is illegal. Mine came with something when i bought it a few months ago and i have been pulled over 3 times without any problems. don't know what is % wise but find another persons car that you like the tint of and ask them what it is. I wouldn't worry about the cop.
The scratching on the outside of the glass is probably because a rivet holding the weatherstrip has backed out and is rubbing when you lower/ raise the window. Until you replace the strip, pull it back and use a small flat blade screw driver to push the rivet back in. This is only a temp fix to minimize the scratching. As far as tint, if you don't stay with the legal limits, then no beetching if you do happen to get a ticket. In this day and age I can imagine the uptight feeling some cops may have, walking up on a blacked out car, especially at night. If you get too dark on the rear you may have problems seeing through it at night, with the slope. Also, when you store the top in the rear it will reflect off the back tint. Have to admit though, some tint sharpens the look of the vette.
I live is South Florida and have a limo time all around. Have not been stopped in three years for the tint probably because the cops down here also have a limo tint.
Another thing I've done is, I put a 4" or 5" strip of limo tint across the top of the windshield. I love it! I've had it that way for 2 years and it really helps when driving into the sun or even if the sun is just overhead - reduces glare. I basically have no need for the sun visors, which I never like to mess w/ anyway...
Let me add, some may not like the look but on my black car it looks good!
One other thing, I have limo tint on the rear and can actually see pretty well behind me (during the day of course) but if I take the top off, I can't see **** through the rearview mirror. For some reason, w/ the top off & limo tint on the rear there is some kind of reflection that renders the rearview useless. I've kinda learned to live w/ it but it does make the rush hour commute (lane changes etc..) w/ the top off a challenge.
Cool...I went 30% on the sides and he ran out of tint and then just put 15% on the back. With the targa it seems more light comes in anyways. I hope it will be fine.
I have titanium (metallicized) tint on mine, it's legal. It does a better job of keeping heat out the black car and is also better quality in general. Even with it being legal, I still have problems seeing what's way behind me. You can see a pic of how it looks with the sun shining towards one side of the car in my profile.
