I let my parents use my vette to goto Ocean City over the weekend for the car cruise down there. Dad said the car would get hot around 230 when stopped in traffic but would go down when driving. I am gonna put in a new themostat in and check to make sure all the fans are wokring properly. Any other ideas and do you think this may fix the problem?
Dont touch a thing. Thats normal. The reverse cooling of the engine makes the engine run hot. I thought the same thing when I bought my LT4. GM built them this way because they run cleaner at higher temps. You will idle at 230-240....go down about mid temp when moving.

I am looking for manuals about the 1995 that say what GM indicates is the right temp info. Would that be in the shop service manual or the ownews manual?? If neither, which one would it be in??
The drivers side fan comes on at about 224 or with the A/C. The pass fan comes on at 239. I wired a switch in to turn on my pass fan when I want to. In Orlando its real hot and like to catch it before it gets up to those temperatures above 215 or so.

It can be found in the Factory Service Manual, which you can buy from Helm, Inc

how does reverse cooling - a major design improvment, cause the engine to run hot? reverse cooling
allows higher c/r since the heads are cooled first. maybe you're thinking of the engine block, but thats a moot point anyway since the fans are programmed to come on awful late, and the factory programmed temps are unnecessarily HIGH.
if you run between 180-190*, with idle temps 200-220 max, that is much more optimal. 230-240 is nonsense, purely for emissions. i WOULD touch a thing and have repgramming done to energize the fans about 30* earlier.

The FSM for 95 states...fans on "lo" at 228* & fans on "Hi' at 235*.
The fans operate in concert. A/C on will result in fans on "Hi". With the a/c "on" my temp will drop to 205* & stay there.
