Well i was looking on VetteFacts.com trying to find the rarity of my '87 with saddle cloth seats and they didnt have any interior numbers listed for '86 or '87, but in '84 there were 684, in '85 there were only 349. So it looks to me that they were going down pretty rapidly and my car is getting painted TOMARROW and would like to know if i should leave it stock Dark Red Metallic or go ahead and paint it Torch Red like i had originally planned...but i would hate to hurt the value of a rare car ... can anybody help me out or did GM withhold this information from everybody???
There were 371 saddle cloth seats sold in 1987, 295 in coupes and 76 in convertibles. Dark red metallic was far less rare - a total of 5,578 (3,911 coupes/1,667 convertibles). Does it need a repaint? If it does, I'd repaint the color you want; if/when these cars get seriously rare you'll need a repaint again anyway...

I would paint it the original color. It will be less expensive and keep the car 'correct'.
Also, the original color will look better and be less expensive to your wallet.
I'm not trying to be negative but having cloth seats is not going to be a big deal on the 'future value' of your vette. Options, Paint Colors, and High HP engine options bring big $$.
Good luck, I bet you are excited about the paint job!
Well the whole car is already primered jambs included, so ill just go ahead and paint it Torch Red...but 1 of 295 is still pretty impressive out of 20007 coupes built in '87

(can't believe I'm saying this as an NCRS guy )
I can't believe you're saying it either. Go talk to yourself in the mirror: "I am in favor of correct restoration. I am in favor of correct restoration."
