I have an 86 vette that while running tonight, temp reached 240 at an idle for an hour, just stalled on me. Motor has been rebuilt with no mods, new water pump, thermos stat, fans kicked on etc. I did smell some gas but there were no leaks under the car or on the motor. I also had the car on the lift the other day at the body shop and there were no leaks found there either.
I am assuming that the injectors could be the problem or am I wrong. I owned an 86 back in 87 and I smelled gas on that one too. Is this common?
I wouldn't say it's common (gas smell). Have you done any diagnosing to see why it stalled ?? Does it start now ??
Car started back up within minutes which is why I am led to believe it might? be the injectors. Car has new plugs, wires etc... It certainly seemed odd.
If the ignition shut off you might get a gas smell from the unburned fuel. My 85 stalled after 1 1/2 hrs. on the road, was very warm but not hot. The distributor pick up coil magnet was cracked and made the spark intermitant- it would restart and run after an hour or so.

Dist is new also. But it did it again to me tonight. It happened when I stopped?
