Project Update
As many of you already know, I am currently unemployed. So I am taking extreme advantage to get bastet44's car done!
I got back into it Friday, took all the AC stuff off, the fan blower box and all that stuff. I have cleaned, cleaned and cleaned some more. The right frame rail has now been cleaned, primed and painted semi-gloss black. It looks great!!! All the inner fenders have been cleaned and painted, too. They are currently drying.
I am moving across to the left side tomorrow. I plan on putting this all together at the same time, so I don't get overspray on the finished pieces.
I have a new rack and pinion and tie rod ends ready to go in. New brake rotors are on their way, and I will be ordering Hawk HPC pads and some Goodridge SS brake lines from www.tirerack.com tonite, I suspect.
I will then be able to get the front end back together this week.
My plan is to install the engine next week. I still need a 96 legal catback, and new O2s, plugs, wires and a few other odds and ends, but all in all, it's coming together nicely.
Even without the exhaust, I will have the car running by Labor Day weekend, I hope. The PCM has come back... and I need to now sit down and work on the wiring interfacing. I also need to finish gutting the old engine harness... there is a ton of wire I don't need.
I hope to take some pics of the finished engine compartment soon.

Thanks to fellow Forum member, jrzyvet, the motor arrived yesterday morning.
It's a low mileage (60k) 96 LT1/4L60E.
Today, I took the harness off the motor, so I could clean the engine, and get ready to tidy up the harness (you know, the dried up tape and such).
The motor looks about as leak free as any SBC I have ever seen. The intake is DRY. I mean DRY. No leaks. And the engine was not cleaned before it arrived. It still has the stock GM grey RTV on the seals, front and rear. I ain't touching it.
I have hosed it down and life is good.
I will need to replace the cap/rotor on the opti. I am guessing the wires and plugs were original, which leads to serious arcing... with this being a gen II opti, a cap/rotor seems resonable.
that's all I gots so far.
I just scored on a Corsa Catback from eBay!!! It is for a 1996, too!!!!
A dealership in NY had it.. Bresee Chevy. They have good feed back, they responded to qx quickly, the area codes on the phone numbers matched, and finally, their web page fed back to the item in question.
$700 with shipping included!! The steel of the century!!!

This is an exciting project! Good luck! You seem to have covered all the bases.

a fellow forum member sent me a lightly (and I mean LIGHTLY) used OEM cap/rotor. I doubt it had more than a 1000 miles on it.
The Corsa system has been paid for... $708.00 SHIPPED!!! I am so psyched by that deal!!!!
