1953 was the first year. All 1953 Corvettes were white with a red interior, all had Powerglide automatic transmissions mated to a 235 cubic inch 150 HP, six cylinder engines with three carburetors and dual exhaust. This is the rarest Corvette. Of the 300 built, 255 are accounted for today.

Agree with all that 4Ever21 posted here, except the number I've consistently heard recently is that around 225 of the original 300 '53s are known to still exist, leaving around 75 unaccounted for.

I have have gotten the numbers from an older source, idk. Either way, i'm sure you wont find one on the road.

Pretty impressive? My friend, I was there too and it was DAMNED IMPRESSIVE! What a great piece of history that was. I was looking at them when some of the owners were there talking about how and when they were purchased and the stories behind some of them. It is something I will never forget.
