I have water in the passenger side footwell and a slight smell of coolant. I figure that the heater core is leaking. I plan to verify this by taking it to the dealer for a pressure check. The dealer has quoted over $1,100 to replace the core, so I am considering doing the job myself. I have seen recommendations for the "fast guy method" of attacking from the passenger side thru the bottom of the dash, rather than the repair manual method.
Is the "fast guy method" usable for a 95 coupe?
Do I need to buy new hoses or other piece parts when I order the heater core?
I would replace the hoses since you have the system drained and if they are rather aged it's not a bad preventative maintainence to do.
I wrote an entire procedure to R&R the heater core. If you want it, send me your email address via PM or my email address is on my profile.
I just replaced mine for a second time, it leaked again at one of the tubes at the solder joint. So I have a few more tips and short cuts to add to it. But that won't take long to fix.
First time it was about a 12 hr job, two saturdays ago I did it in 9 hrs flat.
Let me know if you want help.
Oh in answer to some of the questions, Fastguy doesn't really apply to the later models and you don't have to take the seat out. I can help you with a parts list, and refer you to Chris at Superior to purchase them. FYI, Chris covered the core replacement for mine under warranty since it was just at a year since installation.
