What year did GM begin to use clear coat on vettes?

and....

I have an 85 (black) with a few "fine scratches". What wax/polish would you guys recommend? The paint is the original.

Thanks,

Clear coat first appeared on the Bowling Green 81s if my memory serves me correctly.

Hey corvetteronw:

Thanks for the response. I was almost certain this 85 had clear coat.

I never see any color when waxing.

I'm in Holland and maybe we can hook up sometime.

I've had 7 vettes. Started with a 60, then a 64, 70, 71, 80, 84 and a 91 ZR-1. Now, back to the 85 which means 8 total.

Had the 70 and 71 painted by a guy in Kazoo nicked "Smokie" and really wild paint. One of these plastics had the 454. Best mileage I ever saw from a vette.

Nothing special about this 85; hell they built nearly 40M of them cept the mileage is 42xx. It's like new. Changed all the fluids, first off, and expected the tires to roll off the rims; they have no dry rot or flat spots.

Keeping it stock from visual...Borla cat-backs and rear Y are the only obvious, but have the stocks in the shed.

160 degree thermo, 180 secondary fan switch, KN filters, Hypertech II chip, input air defusser...what else?

It is a ride. Not as quick as the ZR but it gets the hair on this old Marine's neck up.

Nice to be back into the vettes.

I should post a picture or ID my posts with an image. I'll get around to that.

Right now I'm a prep for surg on the 18th. Scrap nailed the large intestine and ate some of the small. They (civs) fixed that. I'm to be rehooked on the 18th. Then a second to mesh the two hernias. Long, boring med from Germany back here.

Lucky to be around after 4 purps.

Too much info, I know. I tend to do that.

Take good care,

flop

Army vet here but worked in office during Vietnam and MASH type unit during Desert Storm. Only been shot at once but never hit.
Thanks for your service. Check out the Regional Section of the Forum under the Great Lakes section. Then look for postings from the West Michigan crew. We like to get together for road trips and car shows in the area.
Good luck with the surgeries!

Without seeing it this is really tough. You could try using 3M Finesse it
with an electric polisher "buffer" but if it's really fine stuff 3M hand glaze or 3m perfect it would work.

Thanks for the response RonW. And the invite. Good info and appreciated.

Hope to put some spin on the old 85 today. I've never been rained on and it's looking clear over here so you may have a couple hours.

Thanks JD'S WHITE 93: This friggen black...you know? It's not all that bad and Meguiar's nxt did gloss. That's all it did.

I'll clay bar it and give the Black Magic a try. Have never tried the 3M products but you have me thinking.

Take good care,
