I just bought a 1991 convertible - C4. The 3rd day I had it, my driver side pop up headlight behaved rather weird. I was on the highway and turned on my headlights. Both sides popped up but the driver side made some flickering noise while trying to stay open. It seemed like it was winking.
Ever since, whenever I turned on and off my headlights I can still hear that motorized flicking noice. Both sides open and closes fine but its that noise thats bothering me and it seems like its from the driver side headlight assembly.
Is it in need of an adjustment or new parts? Can somebody let me know ASAP cause I dont know what is cause and dont want to do further damage to it. Thanks.
Pop the hood, turn on the lights. Is the motor spinning after the light is all the way up. Just look at the manual **** on top of the motor. If it's spinning away, you need the dreaded gear bushings. Tons of posts on how to do them.

If you are at all mechanically inclined you can change out the bushings on your headlight motors. This is about the cheapest C4 repair there is. I found it easier to take the assembly out of the car and do the job on the workbench. The first one took about 90 minutes, the second one much less time. Clean out the area where the old bushings have turned to dust and reinstall. The usual sockets, screwdrivers and assorted pliers will get you through. If you run into trouble that's what this forum is for.
Bushings can be found at any corvette supplier and even Home Depot I think...........do a search here on headlight bushings........

You will need torks drivers or the ones for your ratchet wrench to be able to remove and disassemble the unit. Not hard, but remove the headlight bucket from the car and put a towel on the work bench and work on it there. Much easier then in the car. Robert
Here you go! It's not that hard and you can do it! Just read this article a few times while waiting for your parts to show up and then attack it! My wife and I completed ours in about 1 1/2 hrs. No problem! Enjoy!
Great advices! Yes the head light motor still spins when its fully open. I am going to take it apart since I already ordered the bushings. I just hope the gear dont go bad on me too. Thanks for the info.
