Default PKE Question

I just ordered a new PKE from gmpartsdirect (best deal I could find other than a used one off of ebay). What is actually involved in programming the new one? Or is it something a dealer would have to do? Thanx.

The instructions come with the PKE and it is very simple. When I reprogrammed my new one it only took about two minutes to complete. I'll try and find the instructions and post it back up.

If you have the owners manual, I believe it has instructions there. I know the video has instructions, but since I've misplaced my video, I can't post them.

1. Move all transmitters out of range.
2. Turn on the ignition. (do not start)
3. Push "TRIP ODO" on the driver information center twice.
4. Within five seconds press and hold "FUEL INFO" until the "PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY" light comes on.
5. Turn the ignition off, but leave the key in the ignition. The "PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY" light should begin to flash to show the system is in programming mode.
6. Bring the transmitter into range. The light will stop flashing and stay on to show that the code is stored.
7. Move the transmitter out of range. The light should start flashing again.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 with each additional transmitter.

The programming mode will shut off if:
You do not program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition or turn it on.
You have programmed three transmitters.

How far is the range of the transmitter? Mine unlocks the pass. side door but not the drivers side. When I use the button I can hear something moving or spinning in the driver side doore but it does not lock or unlock. So mine is prob programmed right just internals in the door screwed up right? When I use the power locks on the door panel both sides operate fine.

Thanks

Bart

The "receiver" is placed on the door skin of the "drivers" door. It may be damaged?? You should be able to open the drivers side from a distance of at 5 to 7 feet and the passenger and rear of car from around 3 to 5 feet. If you are unlocking it from the passenger side closer than the Drivers side.. there is definately something wrong. I on the other hand can not open mine at all from the passenger side or the rear.. except occasionally.. and I believe that is due to a weakening PKE. I have changed the battery and nothing changes, I have also re-programmed.. and still nothing. I have to have my PKE right up against the door to get it to work! :cry
