GM knew that us corvette owners would be too busy mashing the skinny thru the firewall on some curvy canyon roads to worry about how much gas we had left so they devised a plan to have the car mysteriously produce it's own fuel source in the very instance that we may need a little bit more to get us to the next Mobil station
Of course this was only an option on the Corvette since it is the most highly respected automobile ever made
I don't know about remaining quantity, but it is suppose to come on when the gage hits 2 bars. When mine comes on I usually cycle the display to see remaining mile which is generally about 55 miles at that point but I've never gone less then 35 miles remaining and that was looking for any possible open gas station.
The best thing to do is accellerate as quickly as you can, especially through first and second gears when the tank gets low. The force pushes the gas to the back of the tank and can be picked up easier by the fuel pump. This also gets you up to a speed that you can coast to the nearest gas station.
Makes you nervous when the range number is down under 20.
dont ever trust the range indicator, you can go empty and it'll say you have plenty left. This is a chevrolet and it is GM electronics, so it might be way off and you'll find out the hard way.
Once my mother was returning the car to me at school from the tranny shop and let it down to 6 and I nearly had a heart attack.
