Pull the pump fuse while car is running. It is easier, safer and cleaner than bleeding the pressure at the schrader valve. 
I would also disconnect the battery since you'll be working in close proximity to the electric starter motor.
It's very easy to introduce a spark by shorting the heat shield with a wrench or other tool if you don't and BOOM!
