Default Questions

I am looking at joining you fellow Corvette owners. The car I am looking at is a 92 coupe that has 66k miles on it. First off, did the '92 come with keyless entry or was that added in '93? Also, where can I find a list of things to look out for when I go to look at this car. I know about the LT1 Opti-crap from my F-body days, but I was wondering what else I should be looking at. He states the only things wrong are the CD player doesn't work (common issue as I understand it and not a big deal) and that the passenger seat gears for seat adjustment needs to be replaced (how big of a deal is this?). Lastly, he is asking $10,000. Is this a decent price? I realize this is a loaded question. I have been looking around and it seems pretty reasonable. The body looks really clean.Any insite you can give would be greatly appreciated so I can make a good decision.

I can help on the PKE (Passive Keyless Entry), it came out in 93. I sent my Bose CD/cassette to Dr Don's in Texas, $150.00

That is a good price on a low mileage 14 year old vette. IMO

It started in '93, as stated above.

The radio is your choice. If you want to keep it stock, do as suggested above. If you want a aftermarket, just pick what you want. The seat gears will need to be tested and visually looked at. They may need replacing, need a new switch, or just wiring problem.

Oh, Welcome aboard! This is a great place to visit. Hope to see you around.

I think that is a fair price based on mileage.

Any pictures?

Step over to Tech/Perf and read this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=956100

If you acquire it, contact Dr. Don for R&R, consider upgrading to the newer CD mechanism it has a higher sampling rate and is significant less susceptable to skips from the stiff ride of the Vette. http://www.doctordons.com/

Seat would just be an issue of identifying what has failed and getting the replacement parts. The seat cushion comes out by pressing down on the front at the same time reach under and pull the wire bale down and lift the cushion out. From there four bolts and the entire seat is out and you can service the issue.

PKE as mention by the others.

The '92 Vette is like any other car in respect of inspecting for a sale. If your not a mechanic or not familiar enough see if you can find a forum member nearby to help check it our or a qualified mechanic. But look at the obvious, brake pads, rotors, shocks for leaks, condition of hoses, condition of interior, test each and every feature so you know if something is not working. Look at the paint from long angles if you see smooth spots look more careful there may have been a repair. The original paint should have an orange peel effect to it. By all means get it up in the air and inspect the undercarriage for damage and leaks. If you spot an oil leak reinvestigate the rear of the intake manifold area, possible cause not expensive. (Just annoying)

Don't be amazed at the panel when you first turn the key Run, pay attention to the annunciation lamps all but INFL REST should go off in a second or two after the key turned to Run position, the INFL REST will flash 12 times if it is ok. Same thing on the Instrument Panel Cluster. Make sure all conditions clear after start.

Make sure all its additional components are there, (coupe) rachet, manuals, jack and tire tool, master keys (with pellet), etc.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
Good luck and welcome.

If thats all that's wrong with the car sounds like a pretty good deal.
