Default Custom SES light?

Yeah, I'm tired of that same old light. It came on today, a code 45, or for rich exhaust indicated. I'll admit it kinda scared me a little, but engine was running fine with no change in performance. Just seeing that light come on very occasionally from nowhere probably scares all 84-89 TPI owners. I'd like to know if any of you changed it? If so, how? I'd like to change it to something humourous. Any ideas on that one? I thought of one already, but it would be a little inappropriate for the forum.

How about an audible? I was thinking of the last line the car rental clerk uttered to Steve Martin in Planes, Trains & Automobiles: "Uh-oh ..."

That would be a good idea, but what about the hearing impaired? I think a light is kinda better. "Service Engine Soon" or "Check Engine" is too serious. How about something AOLish like, "You've got DTCs!"?

You should maybe hook up an audible alarm that says, "Hey dumbass! I bet you forgot this annoying light also comes on everytime before you start the car."

Yeah, when I see the battery light on too, then I know the car is not running, obviously. If it should reveal its ugly head while the engine is running, sure, I'm probably gonna get scared and cuss a little bit. About 80% of the time its on by itself without the battery light, I feel like the car is gonna stall out on me any minute. So my heart starts beating fast and I start to sweat. When it turns off, I'm like, phewwwwww...... Then I park somewhere and check what code it was. Call me a big dork, but I already memorized all the assigned dianostic trouble codes and their detail from my Helms manual.

When the SES comes on in my friend's 99 Suburban, its usually ok. Its probably on because something emissions-related went amiss on a 96 and up OBD2 car, like the "after cat" O2 sensor.

LOL, the only thing emissions related that can cause that in my Vette is the EGR. But since my ECM is programmed not to throw a EGR code, its all ok, until an important sensor used to run the car becomes faulty. Then the panic starts...
