My buddy has an LT4 coupe and has never been able to take his targa top off.... He claims it needs a screwdriver style tool to get it off... I have yet to look at it... what is he needing?
An extra long T40 torx bit. S.K. makes one that's 3/8 drive. SO does Snap On.
Or a regular bit with an extension. This is a little easier to find. I use this all the time with one of those small lithium powered drivers. Works great, fits in the center console, and keeps it's charge pretty good.

I have the original that came with my car. I however use a little cheapie B&D electric that I got for around $10. and a .35 torx bit that I got at Ace. They have worked well for me for over a year now.

How long has he had the vette??
That would have been one of the first things I would be looking forward to! Driving my first/new vette with the top off!
Ecklers has a copy of the original wrench for $14.95.
While Eckler's is teh suck, you can find the same tool in the other Corvette Accessory catalog. About $15 and a good copy of the original tool. But any 1/4" drive ratchet, a 4" extension, and a 1/" socket with a T40 tip will work. Go to Harbor Freight and spend about $6.
