If you can loosen the console trim and lift it all you might need to do is just swap the electrical connections to verify. But yes if the engineering is the same all those switches are usually held on with two phillips screws.
It's good to have a can of contact cleaner. Over time you'll use it. I like to spritz the electrical connections when I disconnect them when I'm doing a service procedure.
Remember that you are dealing with old wiring. Pull only on the connectors, NOT on the wires. Contact cleaner will help get a good connection, diaelectric grease (little dab will do ya) will help keep a good connection.
was playing around with the window switch some more and i kept hammering away at it pushing it down and the window went down and back up i exercised it like this a dozen times and worked every single time, came back a hour later and tried this time wouldn't go down so after hitting the switch a 10 times or so it went down again and back up repeatedly just like before, so basically if i toy with it a few times it will go down... seems like a bad connection or failing switch most likely
I think you got it... will it be tough getting a new switch from your location?
Since this doesn't seem to be an urgent problem trying soaking the switch with the contact cleaner first. Don't even take it out of the console, just work some cleaner in (same as the qtip and water diagnostic routine). The intermittent, double throw, polarity reversing switch has some contacts inside that just might clean up. Why not?
Or, if you want a used switch try vette2vette.com. New should be easy to come by and relatively inexpensive though.
^^^ ill try that contact cleaner first for sure, my car is still in storage right now so it is not super urgent, be great if all it needs is the contact cleaner
Storage.. STORAGE what's up with that! It's summertime don't you hear it screaming at you in the garage Drive me Drive me.
ya i didn't want to drive it until i had all my stuff installed, most of it is in now(wheelskins/iggee covers/carbon dash kit) but now my license may be suspended so i dunno whats going on...
... that doesn't sound good. Hope you get it resolved in your favor.
I agree with aminnich, try a couple blast of cleaner/lub before going to get a new switch. I tried that route on mine. It worked for a bit then repeat the same symptoms so I just ordered the daym switch and was done with.
^^^ ya for now im just happy it goes down at all lol but im gonna go grab some contact cleaner tomorrow and give it a try i honestly think the q-tip water combo woke the switch up because there was nothing before so contact cleaner should be even better, thanks again for all the info guys
been a few hours since i last tested the switch... so i just got home and i tried it out and its working just like normal goes up and down on the first try! hopefully this means it is fixed and will work fine from now on, although both my windows do go up pretty slowly(down is fine) but eventually i will upgrade to the newer style motors but good enough for time being i guess
Well so far probably the cheapest repair you'll do to the Vette.
Good to here they are working again. From looking over that post on upgrading the motor/regulator, sounds like this has been an issue with those year model systems (slow as molassis).
After you get her back on the road and can start driving it again, sounds like something to add to the list to be R&R'd.
