ABS failure
I have a 1990 C4 and the ABS light comes on at times. Some times it stays on and sometimes it never comes on. Is there any logic to this trend? What is the most common things to look for?

Just guessing but............maybe a somewhat dirty wheel speed sensor or low brake fluid. The intermittent aspect has me leaning towards the two suggestions above. Are you setting any codes?

If your wheel sensor star wheels aren't fuzzy with magnetic debris, then you most likely have an intermittent wheel sensor coil. Good GM dealers have an ABS testor which will find a defective sensor, but it is going to have to be bad during the test. One worthwhile effort is to unplug and replug in all connectors on your ABS controller. You might have a poor connection and cycling the connectors will clean the connections.
