Default Brake Pad Replacement

Ive got new wheels coming for my 96 .Common problem is the dust from brake pads,is this because of cheap pads ?Are there any pads that dont leave as much dust .I didnt want to add Kleen Wheels shields unless thats the only alternative..

Go for ceramic pads if it bothers you that bad. You can get them at most parts stores. Typically though, the more dust....the better stopping power of the pads.

Ceramic pads will definitely generate less dust. They may not work as well when cold but you should see braking performance very close to stock pads (which may also be an option).

I would not consider the Kleen-Wheel shields as the stock wheel is designed to pull air over the rotors and through the wheels. The Kleen-Wheels disrupt the flow of air and may result in overheating the brakes.

I went to Bosch ceramic pads and get NO brake dust. It also stops fast and straight everytime. I don;t get brake fade either when driving the twisty hilly backroads, but I do not autox so can't say how they would do there.

Picture was taken without washing the car for it and it is a DD, notice no brake dust.

If dusting is a problem, research using AutoZone PFC's Z rated. Non-dusting, work with heat and come with a great guarantee.

The PFC pads caused lots of dust for me.

I surely hope you're not serious about putting shields behind some C6 wheels. That would have to look awful imo.

I just replaced my pads, front and rear, with Bendix semi's. They create more dust than the stockers I pulled off, but they also stop a hell of a lot better either cold or hot. IMO, I'd rather have to clean the wheels more often then trade off the stopping power.

There is not any 'trade off' with the ceramics!!! No dust and stop great, including no heat fade in normal driving (again I am not talking about racing). If there is any down side it is supposedly shortened rotor life, but I have not seen, or experienced that either. And the brake shields would be a really, really bad idea imo.

I just put Bosch ceramics on the front of my '96 recently. They cut out the squeal and lowered the dust significantly. I found them at a great price from an ebayer called ecaronline. Website: http://stores.ebay.com/ECarOnline

Also, here's a link to some pics of the rear Napa ceramix pad replacement: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ght=brake+pads

Good luck with it. I love the ceramics!

Exactly.

Not only do the have better stopping power and low dusting, you don't get that 'groaning' sound when creeping and stopping. With HawkXPS, during the burnishing process they were going quick by the time I got to stop 18, with the Durastops I went beyond 20 stops to 22 (only cause I had a little more road to go to get back to the house) and they were still stopping strong with no fade (30 mph to a hard stop, repeat 20 consecutive times.)

Durastops have a lifetime warranty.

I was told they were noisy. Have any of you experienced that? Meaning the ceramic pads.

The quietest pad I've ever used. Absolutely no noise whatsoever.

Including that annoying groan while creeping.

No. The ceramics I have are very quiet. I have the Bosch ceramics on front (with drilled and slotted rotors) and Napa on the rear (with Napa standard rotors), now. Love 'em.
