Here's my problem. I had to replace the brake booster on my '93 so I went to Autozone and ordered a remanufactured booster. They got it I brought it home put it in and the bolts that mount it to the firewall are 1/4 inch shorter than the bolts on the factory booster. They are flush with the firewall and I can't even get the nuts on them also the diameter of the re-man booster is slightly smaller than the factory one . I went back to Autozone and asked if it was the right booster (part# 54-71405) and they said it was. I then went to Advanced Auto Parts and the guy there said it's probably the wrong booster in the box with the right part#. So I ordered one from them and it will be there tomorrow I'm just going to look at the bolts right away and either take it or return it. The next step will be the local Chevy stealership. The pressure is on I'm going to Carlisle in less than two weeks . Has anyone had this happen to them?
I just did my 89... Autozone got it right the 1st time on the booster. Are you changing the master also ? might as well... just make sure you bench bleed the master before installing it... I didn't and I wasted plenty of time before all was well again.
Have fun !
Has happened to me, (but not with the Vette). Returned the booster for another and all was well. As I recall it is tough to find a part # on some of them.
just replaced mine with one (remanufactured) from napa. no issues, although it's a lot uglier under the hood than the original!!!! How did you like the bolt location near the steering column.

The bolt on the passenger side of the column was the tough one. Not to bad with a swivel though.
I got the booster from Advanced Auto Parts today and the bolts were long enough. Now I have some major adjusting to do. The pedal goes almost to the floor and the booster makes a groaning sound. The instructions say if it groans the rod on the booster needs to be shortened and to do that you need to turn the nut on the booster in. Is turning the nut clockwise in?

That bolt location is pure insanity! A couple of guys from the forum came over this weekend to help me change mine and I couldn't have done it without their help. Good tip about the pedal travel...mine is too close to the floor for my taste...which way did you turn it?
