If your hood is aligned properly, this won't happen.

I always drop mine from 6-8 inches, but never have had the door open, I'm gonna take a peak.

I always see these after the fact. I did the same thing to mine when I first got it, now my nearly perfect Vette has a chip on the drivers side hood where it hit the door. Mine chipped off a chunk, I was able to retrieve it and super glue it back on. It still kills me though.
