Default Axle u joints?

How do I tell if I need to replace the u-joints? Got out on the interstate and seem to get some weird frequency vibration, kinda was harsh, or maybe shocks are shot? Road was not in the best of shape. Don't notice driving around at 55 to 70. I can usually tell whats going on with my cars but not use to this stiff of suspension. Was bad enough that took an alternate route home. Car has 87000 miles on it.

Usually you get a clunk or clink when placing it into gear if the u-joints are bad or drive shaft vibrations.

Are you sure your tires are balanced correctly?

I did just rotate my tires front rear, and do notice some new wheel vibrations. but the new vibration is coming from the rear and I wouls think I would have really noticed when they were on the front. the tires that are on the rear now are cupped from being on the front. In doing some searchinf in the forumn I came across some stuff on the u joints. My car is a manual so don't really notice a clunk, and I will jack car up and check the joints tonight. But I'm also wandering about shocks? I mean it almost felt like the tires would jump do to a crack in the road and then would kinda just bounce for awhile. It was a weird thing, but was pretty constant while over 75 mph. Was hoping to put off most maintenance till this winter, just because have more time and enjoy working on cars.

Everything you have said so far indicates bad rear tires and possibly worn shocks. No reason to suspect ujoints from what you have told us.
ps--why were tires cupped? That is another possible sign of bad shocks and/or bad balance and/or bad alignment.

Thats the way they came when I purchased the car. The inside of the front tires were cupped pretty bad so I decided to rotate them. If it was spring I'd go get new rubber but was hoping to get to winter, there is still enough rubber left. Plus want to either get new rear rims (go from 17x19.5 to something bigger in zr1 chrome or get a whole new set of rims). Did notice that the top of the front shocks were loose so maybe time for shocks and tires.

And if insides of front tires wearing oddly throw in an alignment for sure. At the very least the toe-in is set to toe-out position.
