Default Catch In The Cable ?

My 88 has a spot where the throttle catches ? My cruise doesn't work and when I drive on the highway, I can't keep at a steady speed. The accelerator isn't smooth at one point. It is like something catches and when you push harder, it "frees". I can't keep at a steady speed. hard to do even in town. I know that sounded stupid. Do i start by replacing the throttle cable ? It wierd. because everything seems free at the thottle body.could it be the spring on tb?

Can u duplicate the problem while its idling? If so have someone push the pedal and see if you can see/feel anything catching. Could be as simple as carbon building on the butterflies of the TB.

I replaced the cable it my '85, mostly because it was a cheap/easy job and mine was sticking. I was able to get the same symptons in neutral as I did driving- which let me pinpoint the problem.
