Default '86 w/headers

Has anyone out there put headers on a '86 coupe with the 5.7L engine? i just purchased this car and the PO put headers on w/o completing the rest of the exhaust system.

I am new to the Corvette and have a couple of questions:

1. The passenger side header has a oxygen sensor bung welded in. It also has a bung welded in at the top, rear of the header. The pipe coming out of the bung is about 1/2" diameter with a flared end. Does any know what this might be used for?
2. If you have put headers on an '86, what did you use for the rest of the exhaust system? Catalytic converter, mufflers, H-pipe, etc.
3. Did you use the standard 1-wire oxygen sensor?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

The pipe at top/rear is for EGR. I use a heated O2 because of the position of my O2 bung. If your bung is still in a primary pipe, you would easily get by with a single wire O2. I'm using whats left of the factory Y(after tying into headers,no pre cats) then through the main cat delete pipe, and finally through a Magnaflow cat back.

FWIW, install driver's side from above, passenger side from below. Depending on what headers you get, you may have to move the starter to get the passenger side mounted.

The header bolt on the passenger side firewall is a PITA, best of luck.

ooops nm I misread post at first.... I see the headers are already on... carry on!

I have hooker ceramic-coated headers; Random Technologies true dual SS exhaust with bullet cats, X pipe and flow master mufflers. The RT exhaust system was expensive, but I will not have to worry about it in the future. There are two different types of cats available from RT, go with the more expensive ones because they will last longer.

Hooker front y-pipe part # 96702. POS hit the trans pan on my automatic '86. Had to cut and weld a new corner section to clear. Random Tech main cat from TPIS. Flowmaster Force II cat back from Summit.

I run the single 1 wire O2 Sensor. You need to know if your car is going into closed loop or not to determine if you need a heated 3 wire O2 sensor. Do this simple test to find out. Mine goes into closed loop just fine, so I don't use a heated one. I use the regular single wire one.

Thanx for all the info.

Would anyone happen to have a pic of the EGR setup. I have a Haynes manual but it doesn't show a complete pic. It doesn't even mention the EGR temp. sensor.

Again, i'm shooting blind here. Just trying to find out what connects to what.

TIA

EGR switch location. In the back near the distributor.
