Just finished installing a heater core in my 84. What a freaking nightmare. I think the devil himself designed the heating system in the early C4's, or maybe GM borrowed Ford engieers? Either way it sucks big time!

Congratulations... nothing like the bonding that takes place when replacing the heater core on your Vette.

A heater core on a c-4 maybe bad, but I bet it's not the worst.

The heater core in my son's '99 Ford Ranger went out a couple months ago. The first step is to remove the steering column. The next 57 steps involve evacuating the AC system and removing all compontants all the way across to the firewall.

Looked up my '98 Dodge Durango. Pretty much the same thing plus the heater core is conveniently located at about the center of the engine compartment somewhat lower than the top of the engine. That's handy.

They ought to require car designers to replace commonly needed componants like heater cores in a few of these vehicles about 50 times. Then give them their pad, paper and slide rule and let them start engineering. I be if they did, in a few years all you'd have to do to get to the heater core would be remove a couple retaining clips and it would be out.

Kind of like Draven said, you guys should get "Heater Core" tags, like the guys in the 10 second club.

Amen brother. I had an s10, the oil change involved bruning yourself on the exhaust manifold which was located right next to the oil filter so you could not get a proper filter wrench around it.
