I have "stumbled" upon a great deal on a '99 C5 convertible. It is one of my friend's cars so I know it intimately. I has every available option, garage kept (under an inflatable bubble) and only has 12,000 miles on it. I can pick this up for $20K. I guess good for me he comes from a very wealthy family and the vette is just a toy that he has grown tired of. The '93 that I have was his high school graduation present that I bought off of him. The '99 is a college graduation present as well.
I was first wondering if anyone knew of any "issues" that were common to the 99's and what would be a good asking price for my '93 with 55K miles on it if I decide to do it.
I think there were a few issues with the early C5's, but you would probably be better off posting this in the C5 section. Good luck with your decision, it really sounds like a good deal.
Unless there is something catastrophically wrong with it, it is worth several thousand dollars more than that. It's worth 20k if it had 10 times that mileage.

Most of us wish we all had friends like that. Unfortunately most of the people I know are generally a bunch of jackasses and such a waste of human life that it is almost disgusting that they are allowed to breath. I guess I need to choose different people to associate with
When someone gives you something it has no value. No wonder he got tired of it.
Thats a good price but I like the coupes better. You could buy it and resell it if you don't like it.
But why would you get rid of a C4 with 55k miles?
The 97's had a few issues, but the 99's were pretty much non-problematic. $20K for a 99 Vert is a smokin deal, and you'd be foolish to pass it by. If you decide that you don't like it, you could turn around and sell it for a VERY healthy profit.

I don't know that agree with your first statement. I have been given things over the course of my life and they have held great value and at the same time I got to a point that I wanted something different. I stopped in to visit him a few days ago and we were having a beer and talking Vettes. I commented how much I liked his car and he said if I liked it so much he would sell it to me. I asked him why he wanted to sell it and he said that obviusly he just hasn't had the time to drive it and he was tired of seeing such a nice car just sitting there. He said with his schedule & a new son he just didn't see that changing anytime soon.
My only reason for possibly making the change would be to get a more "driver friendly" car for my wife. The '93 was bought as an anniversary gift for her. She enjoys the car greatly but I have noticed that it almost seems like "work" for her to drive it. The '99's seem smoother / easier to drive. For me, I would rather have the feel the '93 provides but I'm not the one driving it. We're going over today so my wife can drive it. If she likes it, we'll probably make the deal. Also, the price is only good if I'm buying to give to my wife. He said that if I wanted to buy just to turn around an dresell it, he woul dkeep it and do that himself.
