I am laying out plans for replacing my carpet in my 91 and wish to add Dynamat or a similar sound dampening material. I plan on matting the floor, firewall, and doors. I have a few questions for those who've done this before.
(1) What materials did you use and why? The Dynamat website confuses me with all of the options they have.
(2) Did adding the Dynamat, especially to the doors, make reinstallation of the carpet and door panels difficult?
Go to your local stero shop and check the prices When you see the prices you will have to pick your jaw off the floor. It does work but it is very expensive. All you have to do is cut it to fit the spot that it is going into, peel and stick. There are some other brands out there but they are all expensive.
I couldn't afford Dynamat
I installed B-Quite deadener and it was easy to install. So far all i have done is the rear cargo area and doors. I will do the rest someday
I bought mine off Ebay and used 50 square feet.
Redid my inside, but Rino-lined first, then B-quiet, then JCWhitney, fire & sound insulation, then Mass-Back Carpet... improved 100%, did the whole interior firwall to rear..

Did you add any dampening material to the internal portion of the door assembly, or just the external portion? If you did the internal section, did it affect your reinstallation of the door pannels?

I did in and out and did not affect panel installation.
Here is a few pics
Can anyone help with product selection from Dynamat? These guys have so much stuff and I'm not certain what's for what. They don't go a great job explaining it in detail on their website.
i just finished adding sound deadening to my 85. i went with Damplifier Pro and Overkill from second skin audio. as a matter of fact, i finished last night.
installation, while not hard, was a royal PITA. mostly because I'M SO FRICKIN' **** about these cars and anything i do to them. i spent a lot of time cutting/fitting/butting seams, etc. the hardest part was the drivers side firewall. i went with second skin audio mostly from what i read on this site - http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ . lots of good information.
once i install my new power antenna, i can start adding my new carpet and trim...
BTW, it took 80 square feet to do my 85 coupe, and probably spent around 40 hours on installation.

I used Dyanamat Extreme. Blocks heat and dampens sound...
I bought 2 packs w/ contained approx 12sq.ft each. I didnt want to weight the car down TOO much, so I still have about 6sq.ft left over...
No problems w/ carpet/door installation, its very thin stuff. Also, w/ Extreme, no need to heat before application, like some of the other ones.
It works GREAT!
WOW Agent! Thats crazy how much you used! Have you thought about how all that extra weight is going to affect the door hinges over time? (maybe that stuff isnt as dense/heavy as Dynamat?)

Thanks for all of the repies. I'm looking into this some more and will delay my plans until I can read some more about this Second Skin material. Does anyone else have experience with this?

Are you replacing the carpet as well? Which brand? Does it fit well? There are multiple threads on The Forum speaking poorly about the carpet kit from Mid America (it's outsourced from some other company).
One of my primary concerns is fit of the door panels and carpet over the new, thicker, floor and doors.
