Default Plug wire lengths

I have a 1988 C4 and the plug wires I got with the car were aftermarket. Some were so long they were looped and tied. I ordered a new set that is factory OEM length but they have no markings. Does anyone know the correct length for wires 1 thru 8 so I can get these on without trial and error?

Lay them out on the floor or a table.
Lay them next to each other and observe the length.

The 2 longest ones go to cylinders 1 & 2
The 2 shortest ones go to cylinders 7 & 8

With the four that are left:

The 2 longest ones go to cylinders 3 & 4
The last two go to cylinders 5 & 6

Hope I got that right.

I think the reason why the plug wires come in such long lengths is due to the factory routing of the wires. They are supposed to wrap around the valve covers through some factory looms.

Here's a wiring diagram if you need one
