Amsoil?.....

Turns out all the guys I knew are not there any more so it looks like I'll have to break in new guys...then I proceed to wait almost two hours to get the oil change...I go to pay the bill and it is now $37.99 with my filter...
I am not happy with the price increase or the time it took or all the new guys....I go to a local place called Victory Lube that I've driven by a thousand times...he tells me he will do my vette using Amsoil 10-30 for $39.99 or $37.99 if I supply the filter and it will be done in 10 minutes while I wait...
My question is, will Amsoil give me the same protection as Mobil1?...I've heard good things about Amsoil but have never used it...I drag race my car 90% of the time but I do drive it to and from whatever track I'm racing at which has been up to a 7 hour drive each way...

He uses oil filters that only cost $2????!!!
Get some K&N oil filters and have him install them....
I do have to question a $40 oil change if you are using real Amsoil; that stuff runs around $8/qt retail.....

...he must get it cheap in large quantities...$2 is the same discount Walmart gives if you bring your own filter...he uses Wix filters but I prefer K&N...

That's a steal right there if it's full synthetic. Amsoil makes semi-synthetics too so you might want to check what they're going to use first.

I am making my comeback slowly but surely...I hope to resume all my normal activities by the new year and that includes racing in the money events!...Woot!...thanks for asking, btw...
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
of Amsoil. These are Group III synthetics which are
severly hydrocracked petro lubes (much purer) with high end additives.
They perform almost as well as a 100% synthetic and don't
last as long. I know the 5W-30 meets the Corvette/GM spec
but not sure about the 10W-30. I expect it does. This particular
line of Amsoil products will go 7500 miles/6 months
Personally I use the 100% Amsoil 5W-30 HDD (Heavy Duty
Diesel) engine oil which also works very well in gasoline engines
and has a "S" (spark which means gasoline engine rating)
as well as the heavy duty diesel ratings. I feel this oil has
better cleaning and dispersant properties and excellent
anti wear properties. It is one of the best products Amsoil
makes. Second choice would be the 0W-30 Amsoil, and
third the regular 5W-30 Amsoil. IMHO..
Another good choice in the non Mobil 1 selection is the
German made Castrol 0W-30. It has a cult following now
and some folks actually hoard the stuff. It is available
at AutoZone stores I believe. Make sure is says made in
Germany on the back of the bottle. It is a somwhat heavier
30 wt than the Mobil 1.
I would also say that the 100% synthetic Mobil 1 is a
darn good oil as well.
There are some excellent oils out there and it is important
not just the lubricant choice but also the filter.
I prefer the new Amsoil EaO line of full flow oil filters
as it uses Nano technology purchased from
Donaldson who pioneered this technology in oil filtration.
These filters are guaranteed for 25K or one year.
As I only change oil in my '93 LT-1 in the fall this is a
good choice for me. They are not inexpensive and
run several dollars more than a Mobil 1 or other
synthetic media filter which is usually about $10 retail.
When choosing an oil filter try and find one with synthetic
filtering media, not just paper. These usually do a better
job. There are many who bash Fram filters but I don't
have any recent personal experience with them.
For those like myself whom are anally addicted to
excellent lubrication I would recommend having your
oil analysed once per year to keep ahead of any
early issues that may become serious in the future.
Like a blood test it can tell us alot of what is going
on in the engine. It save me a Vortec engine when I
discovered very early that my intake manifold gasket
had failed and was contaminating my oil with antifreeze.
This is a very common problem with GM engines and
has been so for some time. (years)
For those who really are interested in lubrication I
recommend bobistheoilguy.com where you can find
alot of info about lubrication. Beware this site can
be addicting.

For years, I've seen/been charged or credited only a couple or three dollars for a filter (if I bring my own). Not surprised since they buy them by the boxful and Wix is more expensive, but on super sale you can get Frams and Purolators for $2 retail. Imagine what they get them for?
I do agree with him that you probably were sold AMSOIL's least expensive synthetic, the AMSOIL XL Synthetic 5w30. Not a bad oil and actually the one I use in my wife's Chevy Trailblazer which has the 5.3L V-8, but if I were putting oil in a Vette that requires an oil meeting GM Standard 4718M I would use one of the other choices Craig recommended.

about on the bobistheoilguy.com site. It removes sludge,
ring buildup and generally cleans the heck out of your
engines internals. I saw a tremendous difference just
looking down oil fill at the metal and valve springs after
my tx. Honestly the metal and parts look like new.
The treatment is to add to the oil, any type oil is ok,
and drive normally for 1500 miles. Change the oil to
a regular/non synthetic oil for the rinse phase
and run for another 1000
miles then go back and change again to whatever
oil that you use regularly.
I chose the Amsoil XL-5W-30 because it's a class III
synthetic which has non synthetic base stock and
works well in the rinse phase. Somthing about the
rinse phase requires a petro base stock oil as it doesn't
have the polarity of synthetic oils.
To REALLY find out about this great product go to
bobistheoilguy.com and go to the additive section.
There is a plethara of information on this product.
I even used it in my auto trans. The car runs
excellent with 60k on the clock.
Hope this helps

That is on the pain side of it.
Got hit by a Chevy Kodiak wrecker right in the drivers door, and my car was knocked off of the road and down an embankment, backwards.
My back hurt everyday almost to the point that I couldn't work.
I refused to take leave of my life cuz some idiot hit me.
I've lifted weights all of my life and a weight machine and time really helped my back.
Depending on the injury excercise and make or break you.
That was in 01 and the last time my back hurt was from lifting weights.
Sit ups work wonders. Let the muscles take the strain, weight lifting makes the whole body stronger including the bones and joints.
I would avoid surgery at all costs.
