offset engine

I don't know if this is common to all c4 designs,but today I noticed that my 86 engine is about 3" to the right between the frame.The only reason I can see to do that is to make room for the steering shaft.But the engine is definatly not set in the middle of the frame.Could this be the reason for the way under acceleration and deceleration it seems to pull to one side?Every other car I've owned,and I've owned lots,the engine was not offset to the right.They somehow kept the engine in the centre of the car,and used several joints to get the steering wheel connected to the steering gear.Is this common to Corvettes?

Its common to C4s. It should not be causing torque steer though. Big block Camaros and Novas had the motor off center also I have a 71 Nova too.

If I believe correctly, the engine isn't offset for the steering column but rather for weight balance. This at least what I read on here at one time, I can't verify truth however.

Many cars do, if the driveshaft was perfectly in line I would think there would be some binding with the Ujoints. Sure packaging has something to do with it also.
