Value opinions invited (4+3 transmission)
Hey gang,
I have decided to to an A4 conversion to my car and in the process the 4+3 transmission will be sold. Reason being, if I ever decide to swap back to a stick shift, it will be to either a 5 speed or 6 speed...
The transmission works flawlessly and has been serviced regularly.
Just want opinions on how much I should offer the complete transmission and shifter for? I'm not concerned about getting rich off of it...I just have no idea what to ask for it, and was hoping the forum can help me come up with a fair price to both buyer and seller. Please don't confuse this thread with a for sale ad, as it won't even be availlable until Spring time...Just looking for info.
Thanks in advance.

Some obligatory questions:
How many miles are on the trans?
Did it work fine when you ran it?
Has the OD unit ever been overhauled?
The earlier OD units had some serious problems from the factory, most attributed to design flaws. I have the maintenance receipts on my car and the original OD lasted from 1984-1989 and only about 40k miles (And I have receipts for fluid changes in that interval, so it was well cared for). If your trans was working fine when removed it is worth atleast $500 to anyone whos 4+3 is acting up. An OD rebuilt easily costs $1000+. Shifters regularly go on eBay for $75-$100. Hope this is a good baseline for you.

I sold my rebuilt 4+3 with bellhousing, new clutch, near new hydraulics for $1000, and it took about 2 months to sell.
There simply isn't much demand.
Also, consider if you swap to a Keisler trans, your bellhousing and clutch setup will come in handy. Or you could try selling that stuff seperately from the trans to someone else who wants to do the same.
The best market for your 4+3 is probably someone who had theirs fail, and wants to just get back on the road.

It is still in the car, working perfectly.
No record of any repairs or rebuilds in the past.
