Default Winter warmup/exercise procedure

I got her out out of the garage today as the temp was in the mid 40s and the roads were dry. I drove up to the YMCA (about 5 miles) and then back after I worked out. Coolant temp was up to 195 F and oil temp got up to 187 F. Is this sufficient for a warmup or should I have driven it a bit more? I try to excercise it at least every 2 weeks if the roads are dry.
For those of you in the Southern regions it is not that water would hurt the car but that the salt they put on the roads can splash up on to the aluminum suspension and cause corrossion that is very time consuming to remove.
Note: Still some ice in my driveway but the streets were good and dry.

Whenever I get the chance in the winter months if the weather is decent and the roads are clean, I usually drive mine on a 20 mile round trip and the water temp reach 190-195 and the oil is 220 or so. What do your temps range on longer trips? I'm not sure a 5 mile trip is doing much good but I don't think it will hurt it although I would drive it until it reaches "normal" temps (whatever that may be for your car).

Your outing was sufficient to wet the seals, and warmup was adequate. Battery charging would require more time, but you can accomplish that without running the engine...

Be well,

Thanks - it is hooked up to a float charger so the battery is OK all the time.

There are a number of different opinions about starting your car during the cold months if you don't drive it regularly. I do drive mine until the snow and salt are on the road. During the time I can't or won't drive the car, I start it once a week and let it run for 20 to 30 minutes. This brings it up to full temp and the fans cycle on and off. Then, back on with the battery tender and put it to sleep for another week. Come on Spring.
