Default 86 4+3 shift **** removal?

How do you remove the shift **** on a 86 with the OD button in the ****? I have the metal "key" removed but the little t-handle looking button under the shifter button looks like it must come out?

Are you saying there are two pins or keys involved??

My '85 Shop Manual only mentions a pin into the "T" slot of the know and slot of lever & bracket assy.

I can return a pic of that manual page if you drop me an email at jgkov@msn.com.

Is the T shaped metal wedge exposed? If so, pull (HARD) to get it out and then unscrew the ****.

I've never worked on one with the shifter mounted button, until next weekend. Does the shifter button just pry out easily without damage?

I HAVE the metal tee OUT, its the 4+3 OD button linkage that sticks through the top of the shifter **** that I am asking how to remove that plastic shift linkage from top of the ****, when you press the shift button it uses this plastic linkage to activate od.

The little "tee" thing you're speaking of is threaded in. All you have to do is unthread it and it comes out. Just remember to count how many times you rotate it before it comes loose, this will be important when you put it back together to make sure your button is adjusted correctly.

Also, you're going to turn that thing a bunch of times before the threads come loose.

Once I removed the silver plug and removed the OD - T (Counting each turn) It screwed right off, on my 1986L Corvette Convertible. Thanks again! Final Note: After this experience with the shifter I just ordered the 1986 & 1987 CORVETTE FACTORY REPAIR SHOP & SERVICE MANUAL On CD-ROM because you need information on your Corvette YEAR!!!
