Default ebrake problems

well here in Memphis to get through vehicle inspection you must have a working e brake. well the test is that it should hold the car when its engaged and the car is in drive and you push the gas. i don't think this test is fare to us but i guess i have to live with it. im not sure that it will ever work as good as they want it to but next time i go through i don't want them to have to just pass me even though my car moves quiet a bit. ive tried barely reving the engine and having it in neutral and they noticed both of my attempts. im not real sure how the e brake works on the vette but the mechanic that i took it to to get it adjusted the first time said that the e brake is set up different from most cars. i just got done with my inspection for this year but i want to know if there is anything i can do to fix it for next year

Beginning in '88 the ebrake is on the rear calipers; prior to that it was on a separate set of brake shoes.

If separate shoes maybe installing new ones would help.

i guess the lady just felt sorry for me. the first time i went through it wouldnt hold at all then i took it to a shop to get them to adjust it then when i got to the inspection station it still wouldn't work good enough so i guess i looked sad enough or upset enough that she was like well ill pass you anyway lol. but i need to figure it out before next year i just figured i would see what i needed to do because i want it to work

There are a few adjustments to make the setup work correctly. Setting the e brake shoes is very similar to the standard type drum and shoe setup. After the shoes are set, the cable is adjusted. Here is enough info for you to dial it in yourself.
