Opti-spark
I replaced the opti-spark in 2003, the car has been stored most of the time since. The other bad move was I washed the engine before I learned about the problem with the opti-spark and water.Last spring the check engine light came on and a dealer check indicated the opti-spark was bad, however there were no other problems(engine miss or hard start). I had the car running this weekend and it stalled out and will not restart. My thought is to replace the opti-spark before doing anything else. The question is does the opti-spark fail completely in this manner?

Your model year is the worst for opti-spark problems. In the later LT1 years they added a small vacuum tube drain to help mimimize the problem but even that did not eliminate it.
I would strongly suggest you install a "new" water pump when you replace the opti-spark to avoid paying twice for this repair.

95 and 96 are vented. It helps some, but not bulletproof.
Before you replace the opti scan it for codes, otherwise you might just be throwing money away. In other words do some diagnostics, don't just throw $$ and parts at it.
