Default PKE help.....

1994 Coupe
I'm sure everyone is sick of these questions so i am sorry in advance. I really would like to get this thing working. Heres the problem:
1) No PKE light goes on ever.... replaced blub
2) No buzzer when the door is open with the key in the ignition..... took apart steering wheel checked the "key in the ignition switch" all was good.
3) Can not access any codes when I try to pin 8 and 5......????
4) Key pad does not work at all....... new fob and battey and still nothing
5) Power door locks work so i'm guessing PKE module is good.
6) Checked all fuses..... all were good

So I key pad is good and I think PKE module is also(since power locks work on the doors). What next?

Is it possible that the PO disabled the PKE? It's easy to do that.
It's also easy to enable it again.
Hang on while I try to find the directions..........

1. Ignition key out of ignition.
2. Press DOOR on PKE until the door locks cycle (about 2 seconds)

It's also possible that the PKE hasn't been "coded" to the car. Try this:

1. Move PKE transmitter out of range of the car (10' is plenty).
2. Turn ignition on
3. Push TRIP ODO button on the DIC, twice
4. Within 5 seconds, press/hold FUEL INFO button until the PKE light comes on (DIC)
5. Turn ignition off, leaving key in
6. PKE light will flash, signifying that it's programming
7. Bring the PKE into range, the light stops flashing, signifying code storing
8. Move PKE out of range, light will flash
9. Remove key from ignition.

HTH.

The PKE was working for a year after I had it. Then out of no where stopped.

Interesting, these are my exact symptoms when I got my 94. No PKE operation at all, no error code retrieval, no lights and no chimes.

I did not have chimes because the chime box was bad. I did fix it by re-soldering connections in the box. This does not effect the PKE although it sits on top of the PKE receiver.

Your point 3 is probably due to the fact the PKE receiver is defective.

Your point 5 is a totally wrong assumption. Although the door locks do go thru the relays in the PKE receiver, if the main processor (in PKE) goes thumbs down, it could very well not effect the locks but the PKE operation will not work.

These were just my specific symptoms but it might fit you also. In my opinion, your PKE receiver is probably defective…………..sorry.

I spent much time checking the cars systems to the PKE, every input wire was OK. Could not fix the box and ended up replacing it. Maybe I can save you some work but if you must do the basics, go for it.

If you have directions on how to remove the top dash pad that would be great. Do I need to disconnect the pass. airbag? What screws and where? Thanks

In short, the center glove box, shifter trim, radio trim, A/C vents, screws behind them, right side kick panel and bolts, bolts for top pad. There’s more of course and would take most of the page. Much has to come apart in sequence. Invest in a Helms factory book, you will use it more than you ever thought.

I will tell you that the air bag is not part of the top pad. The actual air bag is mounted to its own frame under the top pad. Its good practice to pull the fuse for the bag or disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes before working on pad assembly.

Pcolt94: You seem to be very knowledgeable about the PKE. I believe my module is bad (as what the dealer stated to the previous 2 owners, but they could be trying to rip them off...), the keyless doesnt work. I will try the pins tommorow and check for codes, but about locking and unlocking the doors, is it possible that I can install an aftermarket keyless entry and have the doors lock and unlock but also have a defective PKE module?

It says its a "5 wire" setup: http://www.commandocaralarms.com/wir...rolet/Corvette

Since I got the PKE working (bad battery in the fob), I dont need any info, ive decided to keep the alarm the way it is.
