I Am Looking To Be A First Time Corvette Owner, I Have A Chance To Buy A 1993 Torch Red, Coupe, 6 Spd With 14,600 Mi. I Can Pick It Up For $15,000. It Is Pretty Much In Showroom Condition, Except For What You'd Expect For A 14 Yr Old Car. Is This A Good Price? I Appreciate Any Imput.
Miles have been verified. It has a CD player, 3 way adjustable suspension, dual power seats. Anything else I need to look for? Has painted top, not glass.
I tried that, but he won't budge off $15, he wanted $17,500 to start. That's why I was asking for advice, I will be a first time owner and by no means do I know a lot about corvettes. I just know a nice clean car when I see one, which this is. Thanks for the help.
That is low mileage. Look at the widshield. Is is original? In bright sunlight you can see how much pitting is on the windshield. Is it consistant with a low mileage car? Also look at the gas, brake and clutch pedals. If the carpet is original, there should be little wear in the dead pedal area. I would expect to see inspection receipts for every year to document the mileage. I am always wary of claimed low mileage cars, especially Corvettes. Owner history and DMV records should show mileage when the title was changed.
I got a Carfax report which showed the mileage at each owner change (3). The windshield is very clear. The carpet is original and still has the plastic door sill covers stuck to it. Very little pedal wear, the original floor mats are in back and have never been used. He had some paper ones that he put down like they do at the car dealers. Thanks for the good input.
Just keep in mind that $15,000 is TOP DOLLAR for that car. Shop around and see what else is in the area. If you decide to sell it after you put 20,000 more miles on it the price will drop. But if you really like it and want it, buy it. I bought my 93 coupe(It's a Ruby) in October of 2005 for $13,000 and it had 63,000 miles on it, some paint work, wear on the seats,,,,,,. But it's my money and I bought the car I wanted.
I think $15K is a reasonable price for a 93 with that low of miles. I think you're right in dead center as far as what a reasonable price is. For a vette of that kind of condition, I would expect it to sell for between $14K and 16K.
17.5K was way too much, IMO.

It sounds like a garage queen as 14K miles in 14 years is what? 1k per year? I would still check it out very carefully as it should be perfect for that price. Weatherstripping should be perfect, rims perfect, tires should be new, not old. Check that one carefully! If it hasn't been driven the tires could have excellent tread but be rotting and cracking as soon as you start driving it. Belt and hoses--no cracking? Things do break just sitting. Good luck with it, you are paying top dollar, should be a perfect car.
Thanks for the input, I feel better knowing that experienced vette owners think the price is reasonable. I will probably pick it up this weekend. I was hoping to pay around $14, but for one this clean I am willing to pay the extra. Thanks again.

Sounds like a great car, but keep this in mind:
When you pay top dollar for a low-mileage car, you are paying for something (that low mileage) that you will be destroying every time you drive it.
If you want a collector/show car, then a low mile car is what you are looking for. If you use it as a driver instead, then your cost per every mile you drive it goes way up.
Always nice to find a low-mile car, but only if you plan to keep it that way.
I have been struggling with the drive it/garage it since I found the car. I do have Harley's that I drive also, so it's not like I will be driving it all the time. It will be a weekend type car, although I hate to think about the odometer everytime I turn the key. It's something that I will have to think long and hard about. I have checked the tires, hoses, belts etc., everything looks real good, it must have been in a climate controlled garage.

If you like, buy it. A little advice from a guy who has been around awile. DON'T SAVE IT FOR SOMEONE ELSE, YOU FOUND IT, NOW ENJOY IT. It's not rare enough to be a collectors item anyway, and prices are still dropping on later C4's.

Don't think about it, DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT! Vettes were built to be driven, hard and fast, not parked in some garage. The only value in money is what pleasure you can derive from it and just having a vette parked in the garage gives me no pleasure at all. I am nearing 195,000 on my 95 now and I drive the crap out of it every chance I get.

Hopefully you will stay close to home until you KNOW the car is O. K. The first time my girlfriend borrowed mine it stranded her 40 miles away in 102* weather on a freeway entrance ramp. All it turned out to be was a SLIGHTLY LOOSE positive battery cable. The good news is she hasn't asked to drive it since!
