It's usually either of the two sensors in the front of the car. One's kind of under the battery, and the other one is on the other side of the engine bay in a similar location. Run the diagnostic on the system and it'll tell you more.
Hey SILVERSIDES....I've had the same exact problem..welcome to the "pet peeves" of most '90's club". You may get some additional information on this problem by checking out the link below in the tech. section...........Wait til your 3rd. brake lite goes out on you....that's another quirk..just replace your brake lite switch on the pedal.....and the BOSE speakers die.......just to name a few. Good Luck and check out this link................90Vettfan
I had the same issue on my '90. I bought the '90 airbag code clearance tool from Mid-America and it cleared the code permanently, which also turns off your seatbelt light (if your airbag light is on, your seatbelt light stays on). I still have the code clearing tool. PM me if you're interested.

Is that after disassembling both sides and cleaning the sensors and coating with di-electric grease?
The code reset tool will only work if the code isn't resetting itself. Because in 90 they didn't put dielectric grease on the frame before mounting the sensors, the frame corrodes/rusts and the sensor loses its ground, and thus the infl. rest. light comes on. The seat belt light only stays on if you pull the Infl. Rest. light bulb out (or it burns out). The real solution is to pull up the sensors, clean them and the frame very well, then put down some dielectric grease and remount the sensors. THEN reset the codes as prescribed in the Helm's manual. If they still lose ground, then check the connector of the sensor to the airbag (one on each side) - they also can get rusted - just clean them too. Reset the code again - then it should be solved. I did this on my 90 in 02, been fine since.
Same problem here. Although, I think I'm going to go with DDSLT5's suggestion on this one. Sounds more permanent, plus it will allow me to get in touch with my car's "inner self".

Hey Jonecap,
Tell me more about this tool please.....would you be willing to loan this out? I've been living with my "infl. lite" on for the past 2 seasons...almost gotten used to seeing that dreaded lite on. Let me know if you would...some info please........thanks...90Vettfan
You don't need the tool if you buy a FSM, it tells you the sequence to reset the codes yourself by grounding the correct ALDL pin. Of course you want to get the code first & the book will then tell you which sensor or other part is a fault. Buy the FSM, you won't regret it...
By the way, my frame rails are perfect, no rust or corrosion & I've had both sensors throw codes over the years. Diagnostics have usually shown to be the stupid connectors inside the car... passenger foot well & drivers kick panel area. They also are cleaned & dialectic greased to stop the problem.
I had that problem two but was dumb back then and took it back to the place where i got the car. There fix was to take the bulbs out and it worked There is a way to fix it i have it down in the garge it was a common problem on the 90 vet i will look when i gethome from work and let you guys no Tbone
thanks tbone i did the clean the frame rail fix but it did no good might have to try looking at con. inside of car if you find how you fixed your, post and we can try it thanks geo
Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and replace the sensors. Both of the sensors ended up going bad on my old 90. I tried the cleaning trick, and it worked for a few days, but the code came back. I replaced them and never had any trouble with them again.

Are the sensors themselves (internally) subject to water or corrosion? Obviously, the frame rail is (rust).
I'm trying to determine whether I should just replace the sensors while I'm there and be done with it.
j the sensors i dont think can get water in them they sit flat on each frame rail and rust gets between rail and flat part of sensor dont know if its worth buying used or not price of new is around 130 apiece
