Default How about a Basic Mods Forum?

I've been a member of this forum for about 5 or 6 months now and at least two or three times a week, I see the same question with the same answers, opinions and arguements. Couldn't someone add a new forum for basic mods and what to expect from them. I'm certainly not complaining, that was one of my first questions too! P.S., I am NOT volunteering, before anyone asks...I don't know enough....YET!!!

In lieu of such a forum, perhaps C4 Tech tips would do.

We could break the basic mods down by period, say '84, '85-early '86, '87-91, and such...

Or maybe people could make better use of the search function?

Yes it's true, there are many many of the same questions asked over and over. So much even that I see the same one, several times per week. And ya know what? Some of these questions are answered quite well in the FAQ sticky in Tech.!!!!

This has and continues to be a repeated issue. First and foremost, check and do a search in Tech & General. 95% of the time, you'll get more than you actually would want of info... then if your question is still not answered, ask it...
This would help with storage space, access times and definately unwanted responses from CF members that get overly frustrated at the same old entry questions.
Being a member since 2003, i can't tell you how many posts ask - "So how do you check for error codes" and where is the "MAF".....

I'm all for it if we could also put there all of the "C4 vs _____" and "What's faster, a C4 or a _____?" threads.

So, what IS faster? A winged, A4 92 with cut lid and Air Hog filter or a 77 stock LTD low rider?

I can usually find what I need after a long time using the search but it functions fairly miserable. I ether get nothing at all or hundreds of threads that have nothing to do with what I am looking for with the one that has the answer mixed in the middle someplace. The biggest problem seems to be not being able to for phrases like "door panel repair". If I do a search for that I get threads that have all the words but not necessarily in that order. I may be missing something and if I am then maybe a sticky giving instructions on how to do a search and what boolean expressions work and how to use them, or just let us search phrases if we use quotes.

Over at thirdgen they have a redundant/banned threads section.

It has all the basic Q's and A's, threads that are normally duped X 1 million- you arent allowed to post about those as the answers are ALL there.

It was clearly posted where EVERYONE would see it .

Result? Every thread was different, packed full of good tech, made ya want to read through every thread.

I proposed last year we adopt these to stop numerous dupes and it was shot down as being "stupid" among other words.
Enjoy those dupes, everyone.

Onxyc4 & cuisinartvette both make great points... and the search and setup @ thirdgen have some very good features... it would definately be better functionality to be able to find what you are specifically looking for without all the extra baggage.

I agree for the most part but once in a while someone might come up with something new, or a new technology that was never discussed before. Usually this is not the case but I would hate to have a subject banned if we might miss something good.

There are many redundant posts and it may be annoying but I prefer the "what are the best low cost mods" or "which shocks for my car" threads than the inane "what did you name your car" threads that pop up every month or two.
