Default I installed my keyless entry

Bulldog ke1702. Just locks and unlocks the doors. It locks/unlocks both doors while only tapping into one side. It arms and disarms the factory alarm (only if a door is open), but if the alarm goes off you can turn it off with the transmitter. If you buy #773 relays you can make your horn honk or the parking lights flash when you lock/unlock the doors, or open the hatch. One relay each function. It was very easy to install. it only took me 2 hours. I'm very happy with it. No more fiddleing with the key and keyhole.

I was thinking of doing that myself.

You can tie a relay into your door plunger switch circuit to arm it with the door shut.

I'm not sure I understand how that works. Which wire do I hook the relay to? Does it think the door is open with this relay?

What brand and where did you purchase your keyless entry? I am very interested in getting on for mine.

Some alarms have a passive alarm -- one that auto enables the alarm after 30 seconds upon exit. The circuit for this takes more than a relay.

The suggestion is to connect the door switch to the trigger on a relay. The other side would lock the doors and/or set the alarm. You would always have to unlock the door to open/exit. There would be no delay -- without adding additional circuitry (unless this is how your bulldog inherently works). Plus locking your key in the car would be easier. I don't like this idea.

I like the idea of having the keys in my hand when I push the button and hear the doors lock!

There is a wire coming from the key hole in the door. So when you turn the key to unlock the door it sends a signal to the VATS to disarm. You just tap into that wire. The instructions tell you which wire it is. Their directions make it simple. If you notice when you arm your alarm you use the power door lock, but you have to have the door open when you lock it for it to arm properly. So when I closed the door and then locked it with my new transmitter, it did not arm the factory alarm. I just lock it before I close the door. No big deal, it would just be easier to be able to arm it with the door closed.

When I bought my 92 it came with a Viper Alarm system that has keyless entry installed. It also would lock the doors automatically when I put it into drive (most of the time, sometimes it didn't do it) I had nothing but trouble with the VATS. It left me stranded a couple of times as well as once in my driveway. I finally removed the Viper and have not had any trouble since. After reading your post I'm assuming the problem was with the wire never being disconnected. I know it's not disco'd because I can still arm and disarm the factory system with the manual keylock.

Thaks for the info I will try to find the wire and reinstall the Viper.

I had just the Viper keyless entry system installed minus the alarm to avoid any VATS issues. My system opens/locks the doors and the AUX button works the back hatch. I have had the identical system installed on both my 90 and 91 with zero issues. VATS still works on both cars. Goldcylon
